Elianna and Titus
There is a new elephant / asian section to the zoo. It is supposed to be like that of their "natural" habitat. There are two monkey islands and you walk in the middle leaving the monkeys to cross on their ropes right above your head.
The one really cool part of this zoo trip was getting to see one of the elephants squash a huge pumpkin. Apparently elephants don't like to eat pumpkins or squash-y veggies but for entertainment, the zoo keepers hollow out huge pumpkins (I think it was about a 300 pound pumpkin) and then fill them with the veggies elephants do like to eat - carrots, kale, spinach, corn cobs. The zoo keepers bring these huge pumpkins in and then the elephant comes in. To get the stuff out of the inside of the pumpkin, the elephant squashes the pumpkin and then eats the stuff inside. It is pretty fun to watch!
If the pictures are a bit blurry, it's because I was literally being squished into the railing by everyone wanting to see what was happening.
Elianna saw this in the parking lot and asked that I take a picture of it. It looked like a wad of pipe cleaners.
