Wee Firefighter Program

Recently Elianna took part in the Wee Firefighter Program put on by the Denver Firefighter Museum. It's a 6 week "course" that teaches kids all the stuff parents never think to teach their kids even though it's super important.  They have an older kids class and then the younger kids class (3-5) that Elianna was in.  Each week she was taught about a fire safety, read a book about the concept, watched a video (from the early '80s) to reinforce it, practiced it and then finished up with a craft.  It was great!

She learned Stop, Drop, (cover your face) and Roll.  Crawl low under smoke.  Where our safe place is.  And then... they got to meet real live firefighters and visit the firehouse!!!  It was pretty cool!  Plus the museum it was held at is pretty interesting and that's saying a lot for someone who isn't fond of museums.

Her teacher, Sarah, was so good with the kids and very patient.  There was one little boy who insisted on being called Firefighter Joe (his real name was Lucius) and told stories and answered every question and talked and talked and talked.  Sarah was very gracious and kind with him although we all were exasperated with him each and every week.

The trip to the firehouse was pretty cool!  Towards the end they got a call and rushed out of there to the amazement of all the kids!  Thankfully before the firefighters got the call, the kiddos got to spray the fire hose!  Total coolness!!

It was seriously the best $30 we've spent in awhile (it's been awhile since my last massage).  All of those things are important and yet somehow I have never thought to teach them to Elianna.  I am very glad to have such a class offered to help remind parents.

Denzel

My friend Samantha recently had a little baby boy named Denzel.  When Sam goes back to work, Denzel will be coming about 4 days a week to stay with me.  I am so excited to have a little baby to snuggle with again (and then give back so I can sleep all night ... unless my 5 year old stays up from 8:30pm - 2:30am which she did the other night)!

Mr Denzel came this week as a sort of "trial" day - I guess to make sure we would like each other.  He did awesome and slept most of the time!  It was probably a total fluke but hey! it works for now.  He will be coming in December after Samantha and VanKat's families all come and go.

The Color Run

August 20 2014

While I ran off to a bachelorette party, Chris and Elianna headed to The Color Run.  Before going, Elianna was so worried and didn't want to go.  She was worried about the paint and if it would ruin her clothes and how it would all happen and on and on.  She is her mother's child.  Chris said in the end she LOVED it!  Again ... her mother's child.
