Let me first begin with giving you an update on our last week of VBS. The last week went well considering I (Lisa) rolled a go-kart two nights in a row. Other than that, no other incidents. We did, however, have 2 receive Christ as their Savior on Friday night. What an awesome way to end VBS!
Now on to tell ya'll about our vacation. Chris and I had a wonderful, relaxing and fun vacation! We began by flying to Fort Lauderdale and spending 3 1/2 days there.
Sunday after we flew in we ate a wonderful dinner at Sweet Tomatoes. Yum!!!
Monday took us to the beach - for about a 1/2 hour before the rain came. We then toured Fort Lauderdale and Miami before eating at The Cheesecake Facotry that evening. We ordered a scrumptuous piece of Dutch Country Appple Cheesecake to go and ate it on the beach.
Tuesday took us to Key West very bright and early in the morning. We began by going parasailing! The water is so beautiful from 300 feet in the air (tied by a skinny rope to a boat somewhere way down there). We got to see several sea turtles swimming around on the rocks at the bottom of the ocean. After parasailing, we rented a moped/scooter and toured the island of Key West. We ate lunch at a small Cuban restaurant, saw the President Truman "White House of Key West", saw the 0 mile marker sign, and the southern most point of the US. We also bought Chris a hat made out of banana leaves and me a basket made out of banana leaves. The leaves will stay green for about another week, turn brown and then are supposed to last for 30 years or more.
Wednesday for lunch we ate at Sonny's Bar-B-Q!!! In the evening we boarded our small cruise boat for our 2 night, 1 day cruise to the Bahamas.
Thursday morning we docked in Freeport Nassau Bahamas. In the morning, we went snorkeling in the reef off the coast of the Bahamas. We got to see some awesome fish! We threw fish food into the water which, of course, attracted all types of fish. If you floated with your arms straight out in the water in front of you, the fish would swim over and across your arms. The best fish was a bright electric blue fish that looked like it was glowing. It started storming at the end of the snorkeling trip which made breathing through your snorkel slightly difficult as the waves got bigger and crashed over you and throwing water into the snorkel. After snorkeling, we rented a moped/scooter and took off to tour. We began by going over to Paradise Island which is home to the famous Atlantis Resort. The middle walkway looking thing is actually the "Michael Jackson Suite" which costs $25,000 per night with a minimum 1 week stay. Someone has since said that there is a 5 year waiting list. Ridiculous!!! After touring Paradise Island, we went back to the island of Freeport. We went to the parts that most tourist never see. It was actually quite sad to see how some people live in such poverty on one side of the island while the other is living in such luxury. While on the "poor side" we got lost since there are not really any street signs and no one knows what road they live on. However, the people on the island are very friendly and extremely helpful as we, the tourist, asked for directions. We also did a little shopping in the tourist trap part. On the way back to the ship, a little boy approached us asking if he could sing us a song for $1. Chris asked him what song he would sing and the little boy said "Jesus Loves Me." Of course, we could not deny him that opportunity. He sang and then we asked him how much he would make in a day. He said he had to bring $20 back in order to be let back in his house which was 20 miles away. How sad.
Thursday evening we ate dinner (the food was very good and the waitstaff was the best!), played cards with a middle-aged couple we met on the boat, at Latin food at 12:30am and went to bed!
Friday morning we headed off the boat and crashed at the hotel room for awhile before heading out to dinner.
Saturday morning we left and now are home to try to catch up on sleep and sort things out around here.
