Last weekend Chris and I had the opportunity to get away for the weekend . . . just the 2 of us! We headed farther north to stay at a bed and breakfast in CT.
My Chris had Friday off of work so we headed up to NYC to eat lunch at a fabulous little sandwich shop.
Honey glazed ham panini
Steak w/ avocado, chipotle mayo & cilantro
We finished the drive to CT by way of the Long Island ferry.
Friday evening we headed to Mystic Seaport, CT with the intention of eating dinner. However, after much deliberation (2 hours), we decided we did not want to spend upwards to $35 a head and instead headed to the Steak Loft. Needless to say, if you ever have the opportunity to eat at a Steak Loft - run. far. far. away! It was not good! While we were in Mystic, we did see the Mystic Pizza restaurant which was the restaurant the movie "Mystic Pizza" (original I know) was based on. We did not eat there because we figured if we wanted pizza we would stay in New Jersey where the pizza is delicious. We probably should have eaten there. Hindsight is 20/20.
Saturday found us making our way up to Boston to spend the day. We walked part of the Freedom Trail but since it is still freezing, we opted to take a trolley tour of the trail instead. The best part of the trolley tour was that you could get on and off at any given time and do a little exploring on your own.
Our first trolley tour driver was great! He was funny, entertaining and took us on a "detour" to the Boston Fire Museum.
We saw some historic sights but just don't ask me what they all are - I have no idea.
Lunch was at Legal Seafood which was the total opposite of our Friday evening meal. Chris had clam chowder which he claimed was the best he had ever had while I branched out, was brave and tried lobster bisque. We had other food with our soups but I don't remember what it all was.
On stop #9 of our tour, we broke off to tour the USS Constitution and some other ship. It only served to remind me that I am very and extremely claustrophobic and would never make it in the Navy.
Dinner was a delicious St. Patrick's Day fare of beef stew and corned beef and potatoes. We were serenaded by the Irish bagpipes playing an array of Irish songs in a small crowded restaurant. Delicious by all accounts!
On our way home Sunday afternoon, we bookended our weekend by eating dinner in NYC again. This time we had hummus and falafel at one restaurant and then hopped across the street to have crepes for dessert. Specifically a Neutella crepe w/ bananas and a Creme Brulee w/ bananas and chocolate crepe. It was the perfect (and delicious) way to end our fun weekend!
