Field Day

The week before Elianna got out of school (way back in ye olden days of the month of May the year twenty fourteen), her school had field day.  I am very glad for the education she got last year, but the organization skills were extremely lacking!  That will come into play later on, but I apparently needed to get that off me!

The first thing with field day was they had to make a goal of something they wanted to accomplish and if they did, then they got a "point" for their team.  The "field" was by a lake which had a path around it.  They were supposed to make a goal of how many times they wanted to go around the lake by either walking, running, biking, etc.  It's about 1 mile around the lake.  For older kids, no problem, but I will say I was very concerned about what Elianna would do.  It would take us awhile to walk or run around the lake - little legs don't go very fast.  The other option was biking.  In the past, when she would ride her bike around the very small path we had behind our old house (about 1/4 mile), her legs would get so tired and she couldn't make it around (mostly drama but still.).

Since biking was pretty much our only option, it's what we went for.  Being the good mother I am, I forgot her bike helmet so she rode around the lake (1 time) without it.  She only tipped over 4 times (it was on a bit of an incline) without her helmet.  Glad I was there to catch her!

After everyone finished completing "their goal", the games began.  They had sack races and hoping games, and spinning games and then they broke out these older kid games that the little ones were like "what?" about.  That's where the disorganization comes into play.  All games must be all age appropriate.  A 3 or 4 year old is not going to know how to play Spider In the Web or Banana, Gorilla, and something.  There was another long list but some of the teachers revolted and asked if we could be done after tug of war.  Yes, several littles almost got trampled in tug of war.

We ate lunch, played and waited for the ice cream to come.  The team that won got to buy their ice cream first.

Overall, Elianna had fun = success!

AirLife Race

Chris often works at 5K races for Camp Gladiator to recruit new people to join.  One of the recent (as in the beginning of May but when you're terribly behind, it becomes recent) races he worked was the AirLife Denver 5K.  Elianna and I were not planning on attending but after he texted me the picture below, we jumped in the car and headed over.  Chris said that all the vehicles with sirens turned them on to start the race.  He said it was terribly loud!  Glad we missed that!

We got there after the race had finished, but were still able to see all the ambulances, fire trucks, police cars and motorcycles, and the AirLife helicopter.  While we were waiting in the free face painting line, we were able to talk to one of the AirLife pilots who was in line with her daughter.  I actually learned a lot by talking with her.  She said that (in our area anyway) there are 8 different teams that go out based on the situation.  She is part of the High Risk OB team.  They mainly transport people to different hospitals and don't do the "Oh my goodness!  Someone is having a baby in a cornfield in Nebraska and we need to get them to the hospital!" stuff.  Pretty exciting to learn about!

After Elianna got her arm painted, we headed to Chick-Fil-A for an impromptu lunch which basically means I get to sit quietly by myself for awhile while she plays in the play place.  Score all around!

We moved!

Ya know when you schedule a bunch of posts and then they run out without you realizing it?  Yup!  That's pretty much what happened!

On to the topic at hand.  While I was in Nebraska, the former owners of our now house, moved out and left us the house a few days early.  However, since I couldn't talk Chris into going over and cleaning the whole thing while I was gone, as soon as I got home on Monday, Elianna and I headed over to start the cleaning process.  It is amazing how people leave things so dirty.  The only thing I got cleaned that Monday was part of the kitchen.  Part.  As in there was still more to do.  Tuesday I stayed at the old house trying to finish packing up everything until the evening when Elianna went and I spent the night.  She slept.  I cleaned.  Terribly unfair.

Wednesday was the only day Chris had off to move the big things.  Friends came to help, meltdowns occurred and most of the stuff got moved.  However, Thursday and Friday I spent finishing up the moving.  Have I mentioned I hate moving.  At least across town.  I would so much much rather move across the country.

Here is my theory on moving.  Moving across the country is easier because you know you have to pack everything so carefully and meticulously.  Of course, if we ever moved across the country again (which I never want to do!), I would sell most everything I have and buy it new when we got to wherever.  Anyway, moving across town you get so lazy (at least I did) and things just get literally thrown into a box or wherever.  No reasoning just throwing.  Makes it super difficult to unpack.

Now it's a month later and most everything is unpacked.  Not organized but unpacked.  The upstairs is mostly organized - although in the next week or so I'm going to unorganized a room in order to organize the downstairs.  Right now Elianna's play room is upstairs but as soon as the downstairs is organized then her play stuff will go downstairs and the now play room will become storage/craft/sewing room.

I'm hoping to soon have pictures of the house to put up but I'm thinking I should pick up and clean up a little before that happens.  I do have our very first Before and After picture to share though!  It's of the bush out front of the house.  It covered half the small front patio and made it extremely difficult to get in and out of the front door (especially when moving in!).  Chris cut it down and now you can tell we bought a house and not an ugly bush!
