The weekend of Snow Camp was also Chris and I's 5 year anniversary so we took time out this last Saturday to spend as a family. We at first were thinking of going to NYC but changed our minds and decided to go on a hike instead. A nice peaceful hike through the forest ... oh my weary weary bones! We ended up hiking a little over 7 miles - half of which was going uphill while the last half - albeit downhill - was through the dry and wet riverbeds. (The red line was our trail of blood, sweat and tears.)
We have this awesome backpack that is also a baby carrier which Elianna got to ride along in all day.
She did a great job just riding along. I was quite nervous that she would get squirmy seeing as how active she is but she just bumped along enjoying looking around.
We did have to stop on the way up for a diaper change and a quick bottle feeding.
Yes, it was the first day of Spring which is why I look so pale and sickly. Thank the Lord the sun is coming to tan warm us all up!
Once we got to the pond where we ate lunch, Elianna was able to get out and eat leaves play.
On the way back down, she feel asleep and was good until the last 20 minutes of our 4 hour hike.
I think she just needed a diaper change but the parking lot was. just. right. there. Come. on. you. can. make. it!
Once we got home, Elianna - spent from the long hike in the woods - took a leisurely bath to relax and unwind.
Harley enjoyed himself so much! We expected him to run wildly through the woods but he was great and stuck to the trails. He would sniff on ahead and then turn and wait for us and then venture on again. I think he would like to live in the woods.
He also enjoyed playing in the water which made for a kinda wet doggy smell for the car ride home.
However, on the way home, he fell asleep and has pretty much slept in his chair the last 2 days trying to recover.
Chris and I enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the time spent together as a family.

On the way home, we stopped to eat at "Hot Dog Johnny's" in Buttzville. Sounds scrumptious doesn't it? Let me tell you. I hate hotdogs but boy those 2 (and yes I did say 2) dogs were the best tasting things after that hike!
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and cannot wait until our next free weekend to go torture ourselves blaze a new trail!
